About

Hello. My name is Billy and I like booze.

I grew up in a brewery town in Sussex and come from a family of tasteful drinkers – I was dragged around wine tastings as a child, always had a polypin of local beer under the stairs at Christmas and was taught to respect alcohol from an early age. Especially my Dad’s collection of cognac miniatures.

I’m a real ale fan, whisky obsessive, wine learner and cocktail snob. I’m a member of CAMRA and the SMWS, have done Circle Line pubcrawls where we have only stopped at Good Beer Guide pubs (even when I could no longer see) and have attended classy tastings of many different types of wine, spirit and otherwise brewed beverage. I also like random polish lager bought from the corner shop, cheap sherry, rough whisky and the occasional can of John Smiths. I like to think of myself as ‘flexible’. I’m also a photographer and most of the photos on the blog are my own – anything uncredited is mine. I’m also trying to get into the world of video and audio-casting – I apologise for the various crimes I am going to commit in those fields.

Martini

These days Dad sells wine, my brother’s a trained cocktail barman (although occasionally gets distracted by music and trying to be an archaeologist) and after 11 years working in IT as a mainframe database programmer I now work for The Whisky Exchange writing content for their website. This blog will always be independent though, covering all the boozes that I drink that I don’t write about during my day job.

I might also post a bit about food and music. I like those as well…

If you see any mistakes, think I’m wrong about something or just want to say hello please leave a comment or ping me via one of the means on the Contact page. Especially if you see mistakes – I’m trying to learn all about the booze of the world and corrections are much appreciated.

Generally I pay for all the boozes and events that I write about on the blog, but occasionally I do get invited out to things. I don’t generally go along unless there’s a chance to learn new stuff and will always make sure to mention it in the blog post.

I am a participant in the Amazon Europe S.à r.l. Associates Programme, an affiliate advertising programme designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.co.uk.

To be clear – all opinions on this blog are my own and do not necessarily represent those of my employer.
